Service Pistol

Service Pistol Matches…

Service Pistol is a 90 shot match initially shot from 50 yards, reducing to 7 yards in various stages, using either revolvers or semi automatic pistols in .38/357 calibre.  The calibre therefore defines this as a centre fire match.  As well as various stages, the match is also shot from different shooting positions.  As this match involves the use of a holster, all shooters must be the holder of a holster proficiency card to compete.

All stages are timed sequences with each shooter using a bank of 4 targets.  Targets for service pistol are match specific, oval, rapid fire targets.

The course of fire over 50 yards is timed at 2 minutes 45 seconds with shooters changing position and reloading in the new postion.

  • Stage 1: 24 shots over 50 yards with:
    • 6 shots from a prone (lying) position
    • 6 shots from kneeling or sitting
    • 6 shots right hand side of the barricade using the right hand
    • 6 shots left hand side of the barricade using the left hand
  • Stage 2 (a): 24 shots over 25 yards with:
    • 6 shots right hand side of the barricade in 15 seconds
    • 6 shots left hand side of the barricade in 15 seconds
    • 6 shots from right hand & 6 shots from left hand side of the barricade in 35 seconds
  • Stage 2 (b): 12 shots over 25 yards with:
    • 6 shots – 3 shots on each of 2 targets in 6 seconds
    • 6 shots – 2 shots on each of 3 targets in 4 seconds
  • Stage 3: 18 shots over 10 yards with:
    • 6 shots on 1 target in 4 seconds
    • 3 shots using left hand & 3 shots using right hand on 1 target in 8 seconds
    • 6 shots – 3 shots on each of 2 targets in 4 seconds
  • Stage 4: 12 shots over 7 yards in 15 seconds with:
    • 6 shots on first target – reload gun & fire
    • 6 shots on second target

The 12 shot stages are ‘un-aimed’ in that the firearm must be held and fired below shoulder height

Note:

(a) The ‘barricade’ in stages 1 & 2(a) is a vertical post that is used as a support for the shooter
(b) Shooters use both hands for all shots except in the 8 second round in stage 3
(c) Imperial measurements are used
(d) there are some restrictions on trigger weight and power factors in this match
